Fantastic Voyage : Post Pitch Feedback

Although I didn`t present today , I have taken some reference from other peoples feedbacks as to what is wanted from our animations. When looking over my own idea currently , I feel as if it lacks the science which is wanted and so I have also thought of different ways to bring the science into my designs and narrative which may include some character and environment change. Although behind , I will wait until I get feedback when my animatic is done and do some designs for the new idea if my current one doesn`t work out.

Fantastic Voyage : Storyboard (With Narration)

Premiere Pro Help!

I`m sorry for the multiple help posts ,however, this week has not been kind to me in terms of issues with software and technology.

If anyone can help me with this error message that`d be great , I`ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling premiere pro and uninstalling Creative Cloud and reinstalling as well as googling a solution, however, nothing has worked so far.

If anyone can help me that`d be great or would it be easier to just email or call the support line?

Fantastic Voyage: Storyboard (No Narration) + Animatic Update/Crisis

Originally I had planned to upload my storyboard along with my animatic ,however, since Premiere hasn`t been opening on my laptop and I have been trying to fix it for the past few hours , I`m uploading my storyboard on it`s own.

Laptop Malfunction Help

This morning when I tried plugging in my tablet this error message came up .

I thought to try different ports and the same error message came up. I then thought to try my memory stick and my mouse and neither of those worked in any port neither. Looking this up on google I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ports , updating the drivers , checking for faulty wires or usb ports but everything seemed fine , blowing dust out of the ducts , a system restore and restarting my laptop several times ,however, nothing has worked so far. If anyone has any ideas to try and help I`d appreciate it.

Fantastic Voyage : Storyboard WIP

Brainstorming further ideas ,I wanted to take a complete different route compared to my last draft , where I kept the beast like idea and turned the story more into an alien invasion type of story where the T-cells are being transformed by these aliens into their own to destroy the body . However, it is revealed that a greater force from the outside can defeat them (which is the medicine cells) and do , returning the body to it`s healthy state.

Fantastic Voyage : Draft Storyboard 1

Although just a draft , I quickly figured out with this idea that the story wasn`t working. I was unsure with how to transition and fit my different ideas together and so I am only keeping this as a draft. I aim to keep the idea of this dragon beast like creature and the use of black and white to create contrast, however, after going through with this idea I can see that this story is not working.

Adobe Flash : Taste Animation

Today I was shown how to animate in Adobe Photoshop , and since I hadn`t finished my taste animation from previous lessons I wanted to try this technique and show my experimentation in my showreel. The taste I chose was a frozen yoghurt with strawberries which I wanted to represent by using smooth red and white lines showing the colour scheme and soft soothing texture of the dessert. I really enjoy Photoshop animation so far and I feel this is my favorite method of animation so far.

Fantastic Voyage : Thumbnails

After speaking to Phil about an idea for this project , I wanted to thumbnail the idea of a spotlight falling on the `HIV` as if it has been discovered .I wanted to keep the contrast of the disease being kept in black and the light being a white colour to symbolize hope and like it is a light in the darkness that the HIV has been found out before it`s to late. If I am to continue with this idea I will design the medicine (shown in the third thumbnail) to a further degree as the blood cell look to it I feel looks to simple.

Fantastic Voyage : Scene Thumbnails

As I am still unsure with what aspect of HIV I want to focus on , I have been experimenting with the social acceptance of it and how those with the disease may feel on the inside. I wanted to keep the black and white colour scheme to create a solemn atmosphere ,however, if I decide to use these in the future I want to see how they`d look in red so the veins look more like veins instead of trees surrounding the person infected.

What I am certain of so far is I want the art style to be more artistic and metaphorical rather than just educational .

Fantastic Voyage : Further HIV Research

After recent feedback from my OGR I have been advised to do more research into advice given to HIV patients instead of terrifying them into safe sex. My research consists mainly of what HIV actually is compared to the myths that people believe.

Fantastic Voyage : Thumbnails (36-47)

With these thumbnails I wanted to experiment with brushes as I wanted the creature in this animation to remain true to the image in my head ,where the creature looked like a black shadow in mist ,not a complete solid shape. That being said I think the airbrush gave the thumbnails more dimension and looks as if it is fading away. My favorites from these are 43 ,45 and 46.

Fantastic Voyage : HIV Thumbnails (26-35)

While I have enjoyed working in my sketchbook when it comes to thumbnails , I enjoy working with the lasso tool much more and I like the cleaner look of these thumbnails compared to my sketchbook ones. After gaining inspiration from parasite looking creatures , I started work with the newborn virus before it evolves and so I wanted to keep the beast rather small and not that threatening . So far my favorites from these are 6,7 and 10.

Fantastic Voyage : Market Research + Parasite/HIV Beast Influence Map

While I`ve been thumbnailing , I have quickly grown tired of the same blob like beast that has been appearing throughout my thumbnails , to develop this beast further I want the beast to look more like a grotesque parasite invading the body. I want to keep the signature big mouth and large appearance ,but, I want to experiment with different body shapes and limbs to see how terrifying I can make the HIV beast look.

Life Drawing 29/02/16

Working with Robin for the first time was an enjoyable experience , where , I felt I could experiment with colour and shape more because of the energetic atmosphere that was given off in the room. I wanted to experiment more with black paper and white pencils because I feel my work has been linear in terms of black on white when it comes to drawing. I think these pieces are successful because the drawing feels as if it has some form of depth to it and also I had a lot of fun trying this medium out.

Maya Tutorials : Intro to Rigging

Todays tutorial was an introduction to rigging , although this was challenging and took a lengthy amount of time I feel as if I have a learned a lot when it comes to managing joints and how they move.

Fantastic Voyage : Initial Thumbnails (1-25)

So far I have been liking and experimenting on the idea of the HIV virus being this colossal beast that much be fought and is pretty much invincible. However, I have also been experimenting with other imagery as I am still unsure of what I want the story to be or what I want to communicate. I also had the idea about the beast instead of being beaten just being chained away inside of someone since the virus can`t be cured and stays with you for the rest of your life.

Fantastic Voyage : Initial Mindmap + Initial Sketches

So far I am unsure as to what I want my narrative to be . When listening to Dr Klappa talk yesterday I had the single scene in my head when it came to HIV and that was when the cell was dormant and it was a shadow of a figure sleeping and then when a T Cell passed by the only thing what can be seen is teeth.  So far I'm going to keep sketching and see if any ideas pop into my mind.

I also started thinking of an apocalypse inside the body where the HIV cells inject their cells inside other living cells and kills them slowly over time.

Script to Screen : Statue Character Designs (Post Feedback)

After receiving feedback on my previous designs , I took the advice given to look at statues in real life where the details are less refined . After doing some more research I decided to make the hair the same colour as the skin/shadows to make the hair look blended in with the rest of the body .

When it comes to my most successful I feel it is 3B paired with the body . I think this is more successful than 3A because I feel the defining line on the eye in 3A makes the head look less statue like.

Script to Screen : Statue Character Designs

For my final character , I took the 1950s fashion influence maps to create a housewife looking young girl. My original thoughts for her was I wanted her to look horrified and almost distorted because of her fighting ,however, after thinking about it I thought that a statue looking like that wouldn`t fit in a public space in a place which is supposed to look pretty and advertising.

When it comes to the designs I like the look of 1 and 4 with the faces and I like 6 for the body. However, any feedback for these designs will be appreciated.

Script to Screen : Private Detective Developed Designs , Property Developer + Finalizing Environment

Since gaining feedback on my previous designs , I wanted to put together the top face and top outfit designs to see how they would look as a whole design. Out of these three for the detective I think 2 is the most successful as the art style is consistent throughout .

For the Property Developer I wanted to give him a similar suit style ,however, I was struggling with his anatomy slightly from side view ,so, I wanted to see how he would look from the front view as well. This was also a struggle because his head shape is a complex shape to begin with. I will be altering the shape slightly so his body will become slightly easier to draw ,yet will still have him main defining features.

Also receiving feedback on my environment thumbnails , I was stubborn with the background of #4 so I decided to keep the background because of the business that it created. However, I saw the strengths in 3 that made it successful , where the contrast was high and the lighting made the scene almost menacing. That being said , I combined the house and level settings used in 3 and went along with the background I thought was the most successful.

Any feedback to improve this thumbnail will be appreciated.

Script to Screen : Street Thumbnails

These thumbnails I wanted to experiment with composition , I  know my camera angle will be at an angle similar to thumbnail 1 ,however, I had trouble experimenting with different environments without them looking the same ,so, for the concept art I chose to try the composition shown in 2 & 3. My favorite and most accurate of the 3 is 3 since the asymmetrical look gives accuracy to the scene where one side is a calm neighborhood and the other side is a scene of destruction with destroyed houses.

Script to Screen : Demolition Site Exterior Thumbnails + Property Developer Facial Shots

Sticking with my Film Noir theme , I struggled with these thumbnails as I wanted the scene to be cluttered and busy. With my first two I struggled to get that sense ,so, I gradually added more machines and cluttered the background. By my final thumbnail I decided to add people to the background which I hadn`t thought about previously. Currently I`m finding difficulty to decide between 3 & 4 ,plus, any feedback would be appreciated :).

For my facial shots I was originally going along the lines of the mafia and making him look like a suave behind the scenes man ,however, the more I went along these lines I felt as if he should have a more intimidating look about him ,so, I took inspiration from Sykes from Oliver & Company to make him seem more of a businessman yet who still seemed cunning and brute-ish.
